What you'll own
- Lead and continuously improve Sandia's documented quality management system across its current certification scope and registration posture (per the About page — specifics are tracked as client-confirmation placeholders).
- Own customer audit readiness; lead audits, manage findings, and close them with rigorous corrective and preventive action.
- Manage the QC team across incoming, in-process, and final inspection; develop process technicians and operators on quality discipline.
- Partner with optical and mechanical design lead, process engineering, and BD to set release criteria for new programs before tool kickoff — not after PPAP.
- Own supplier quality, including raw-material lot traceability and incoming inspection of substrates, resins, and coatings.
What we're looking for
- Ten or more years in quality leadership at a precision-manufacturing company, with documented ownership of ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 systems.
- Direct experience leading customer and certification-body audits — medical-device OEM, automotive Tier 1, or defense prime.
- Working understanding of ITAR posture, USML categorization for optics, and DDTC registration upkeep.
- Comfortable with optical-bench evidence; can read wavefront, MTF, and transmission release data and challenge it intelligently.
Useful, not required
- AS9100D implementation experience.
- Prior cyclic-olefin or precision-polymer optics quality history.
Context
About the role
Quality at Sandia is a product, not a checklist. You’ll run a system where the release evidence is the deliverable customers buy alongside the part. You’ll partner with optical, mechanical, molding, coating, and assembly leadership to set acceptance criteria up front, and you’ll defend the system in front of customer and certification auditors.
How to apply
Send a short note and resume to the address linked above. Tell us one quality system you owned through a major audit — what the finding was, how you closed it, and what you changed in the system afterward.
